It's that time again. Time to step back and take a look at all that you have, all that you love, and take a moment to say "thank you" to the powers-that-be. This is truly one of my favorite holidays. There's a chill in the air and a warmth in the home that goes deeper than what any radiator or fireplace can give. Everyone gets the day off of work (unless you are, God-forbid, in retail) to feast on some of the best homemade dishes you will have the pleasure to partake in all year long. It is a day of friends, family, and carb-loading. What could go wrong?...
Okay, so you could forget to thaw the turkey, make the terrible assumption that the grocery store already took the giblets out of its nether regions, or experience a real-life Christmas Story, and have the neighbors' hounds burst through the kitchen door and eat it right off the kitchen table.
And that's just the turkey. Don't forget the side dishes and all that could go wrong with them, including what your body will inevitably do after eating what amounts to three full meals of rich, heavy, fatty foods that you have spent all summer long avoiding so you could be "swimsuit ready"!
And the so-called "friends and family"!? After the contentious election year we just suffered through?! Good luck with that! I for one have already received the "Reminder" email not to discuss politics or the election in general at Thanksgiving dinner as "not everyone invited shares your views."
So, who needs a drink?! Well here are a few you can try, depending on your particular ailment.
There's the You Drank Too Many Cocktails But You Still Really Need Another Cocktail cocktail:
SHO SHO - (it's like a healthy juice smoothy with liquor)
1 ounce Akanone Carrot Shochu, 1-ounce oloroso sherry ,3/4 ounce lime juice, 3/4 ounce carrot-ginger syrup, root beer, Garnish: candied ginger
Then there's the "Day After Dealing With My Family" cocktail:
THE PRESBYTERIAN (Cause you may need some religion after the in-laws visit)
Scotch + ginger ale + club soda = simple perfection.
And lastly, there's the Day After THANKS-Fatty McFatpants-GIVING cocktail:
PENICILLIN COCKTAIL (A shot of this will do any body good)
2 oz blended scotch, 1 oz ginger honey syrup, 1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1/4 oz Laphroaig
Hopefully, one of these cocktails will cure what ails ya. Heck, hopefully, you will be one of the few individuals that won't need any of these!
Regardless, all of us at WORK Labs wish you a truly lovely Thanksgiving holiday!
P.S. Just a little design blast from the past...
Happy Turkey Day Y'all!
