The bossman just walked out the door. I'm guaranteed at least a good half hour before he returns. I could pretty much do anything. text a friend. Check Facebook or Instagram. Or just zone out for a few minutes. So why am I typing this blog instead? I suppose it has something to do with not wanting to invite or get into trouble but that's only part of it. One keeps working because doing the job well is as important as doing the job, period. So....
Do you still work as hard when no one is watching?
How hard you work isn't a function of anyone looking over your shoulder. It is a matter of pride. Knowing that when your job is done, it will be done right. That is the beauty of this responsibility called work. It isn't so much a job as it is a philosophy. A code shared by everyone who has ever dug a ditch, worked on an assembly line, or written a sales report. There is no secret handshake that bonds us. Just a feeling of the right way vs. the half-assed way. You know what camp you're in.
Alright, NOW I am going to go to Facebook, but only to post a link to our blog.
