Just read on Boingboing that the guy that designed the Anthora coffee cup recently died. I just always think it’s interesting to think about designs like that. You see it all the time, yet you never consider the fact that at one point someone actually designed it. You just figure “yeah, that’s probably in some paper cup catalog and that’s where they get it from.” But even if that is the case, at some point someone had to lay out the design, get it camera-ready, pick ink colors and all of that. But just as a quick bit of history, it was designed in 1963 by Leslie Buck for the Sherri Cup Company. In the ‘90’s they were selling up to about 500 million of the things annually and it’s been referred to as “perhaps the most successful cup in history.” Can’t say anything I’ve designed comes anywhere close to that.
