This week, WORK Labs would like to spotlight Lab Rat #RCD016, otherwise known as Rian. Rian is a Brand Strategist from the VCU Brandcenter. And while she may have thought she was coming here to further her education in advertising, we are the ones who are reaping the rewards. Aside from her brand strategy work for our clients, Cobble & Stone, DieHappy, and Macy's, she's also assisting us with our own projects, including the WORK site and WORK apparel. She's had several art shows for her photography, and was even hired to create the branding and web design for educational travel and immersion agency, True Immersion. www.trueimmersion.org
Every once and awhile, WORK Labs likes to spotlight, not our own collective work, but that of our employees. Today we are looking at Lab Rat #CRH014, otherwise known as Christopher Harris. While not at WORK, Chris likes to spend his free time scouting the perfect locations for his beautiful photography. These locations often border on being less than easy to access, to straight up illegal. But hey, that's the risk you take for art! Check out some of his work below. You can even purchase his cityscape photo here https://www.chrisrossharris.com/products/rva-sunset
Well done, Chris. Now get back to WORK!
We've been updating some of our pieces for award shows, clients, and our own website. Going through our posters, we thought it would be nice to show you some of our past creations. From highlighting the Richmond Ballet's The Nutcracker, to Holiday wishes from Advanced Orthopaedics, we've had so much fun concepting and photographing for these posters. We had a George Mason reenactor pose with a rubber chicken for Oh George! Tables and Taphouse, the chef of El Jefe Taqueria Garaje sit for photos with tacos and tequila, and even our own photographer's puppy was asked to model for WORK Labs' very own project, Pet Contract.
Take a look below. Which one is your favorite?
Had such a wonderful time at the Richmond Ad Club's PsychADelic Show this past weekend! It's always nice to visit with our friends in the Richmond Ad scene and check out the work they have been doing over the past year. This year WORK Labs was very fortunate to take home awards for some of our favorite projects. One in particular was for our client, Truth Reels. Working with them was so rewarding, being acknowledged for that work by our colleagues is just icing on the cake!
Check out those and a few other winners below.

Has it really been 2 1/2 months since we last published some of our WORK?! It can't be true! What is true is that we have been so busy, time has just flown by. One project we have been hard at work on is for Cobra Mufflers. We have had such a blast working with this company, and relaunching this brand through a multitude of facets, including: - Logos - Wraps - Ads - Packaging - Events - Identity System - Social Media
To kick off the campaign, below are some of our logos and a taste of what's to come.
Just in time for the holidays, Wooly Beast Designs has collaborated with WORK Labs to design their latest line of scented candles, The WORK Series. Seeing as how we love focusing on the "working man", it was no stretch to focus our design skills on the Lumberjack, the Barber, and the Mechanic. And we cannot wait to begin designing for the next batch of the series. This was such a rewarding project, not only for our designer and our photographer, but for the whole WORK Labs crew, as we now have these wonderfully scented candles burning brightly in our office! Check out our designs below, and check out Wooly Beast http://www.woolybeastdesigns.com/
While all of the projects we work on can be exciting and fun in their own way, this one takes the cake (or should I say "taco"). El Jefe Taqueria Garaje is a new restaurant in Lynchburg, Virginia, serving delicious Mexican fare in a relaxed and playful atmosphere. *See photo of chef below for what we mean by playful. And the fun isn't over yet. We will be designing more merchandise for them (like hats, t-shirts and growlers) over the next few weeks. Can't wait to head over there and check out the place in person - I mean, who wouldn't want this guy making their tacos?!?

Our client Release Reels is now officially Truth Reels. I believe the owner, Wes Seigler explained it best:
Another company in the marine industry legally challenged our Release Reels Trademark. After reviewing the pros and cons of fighting this challenge, we quickly realized we wanted to grow to be much more than just a fishing reel company and our current space was cluttered with many other similar name brands. So we took this opportunity and turned it into something that we felt truly represents not only who our founder is, but the philosophy of our company as well.
Truth be told:
Our word is our reputation.
We have a lifetime guarantee.
Every part is made in the USA.
We love what we do.
We love to fish.
Honestly, Truth seemed to fit.
I want to reassure everyone that nothing has changed from ownership, to warranty, to customer service. This is simply an opportunity for our little company to raise the bar to yet another level and continue to improve.
We thank all of you all for the support. Let the journey begin!
Congratulations Truth Reels! We are so very excited for you and proud to have been a part of this relaunch!
Wanted to take a moment to congratulate our very own Christopher Harris on his WORK photo being selected for the Communication Arts Photography Annual.Only 118 were selected out of 4,421 entries! We are super proud of him and feel very fortunate to be able to WORK with him. If you're not sure which picture is his, just look for the handsome, bearded gentleman with the beer in his hand ;)
Congratulations to all the winners. Here's to a job well done!
So it suddenly occurred to us that we have been so busy, that we haven't even had an opportunity to post anything on our blog. For all intents and purposes, this is a good thing. We have not only been working hard on our current projects but also meeting with many potential clients for future opportunities . We are happy to say that we have already been awarded a few of these and are very excited to move forward. Our days have been filled with lots of concepting, rather hilarious photo shoots, new puppies (yep), and afternoons spent with our amazing clients, learning about their own special crafts. All of which will be posted onto this blog just as soon as they're ready.
We've also been hard at WORK putting items up on our very own sites, WORK Garage Sale http://work-garage-sale.
So stay tuned, and once more of our WORK is completed (and we have a moment to breathe) we'll be sure to get back to our regular posting. As for now, please enjoy this photo of the cute new office puppy.
With little room to display an astounding 38,000 relics, and 350,000 printed texts from the Civil War, the Gettysburg Museum was in desperate need of donations and volunteers. WORK Labs was more than happy to help raise awareness by creating multiple posters and ads to help communicate that need. It's hard to believe it's been only 152 years since the Civil War's landmark battle.
We here at WORK Labs can definitely appreciate the small business. Not only are most of our clients small business owners, but we are a small business as well. So here's to starting small and dreaming big!
We all know what really gets our day started, coffee. Whether it's your normal nine to fiver, a weekend gig, or the night-shift, coffee gives us our get-up-and-go. And what kind of company would WORK be if we didn't offer something so vital to the work day? With a coffee for every part of the day, Rise & Shine, 9-5, Night Shift and Clock Out, there's a WORK Coffee for everyone. http://drinkworkcoffee.com/

I'm sure Friday seems a little late in the week to post our Brand of the Week, but we've just been so busy getting entries together for this year's AIGA Grade 8 that the days have just flown by. Fortunately for us, Cabell Harris' own daughter, Chandler Harris has been letting her creative juices flow in the form of photography. Many thanks to her lovely models, Annie Gaston, Grayson Harris and Bentley the Goldendoodle. Enjoy, and have a great weekend!
